SAFIR 55

Semigloss lacquer for wooden floors

  • Varnish

Water-borne, 1-component lacquer for plank and wooden floors.

SAFIR 55 is suitable for lacquer brush or paint brush application on plank and wooden floors as well as wooden stairs. Not suitable for the lacquering of diamond pine and chemically treated wood, e.g., smoked oak.

Surface preparation

The wood surface must be dry, well sanded and free from sanding dust and other dirt.

Application

Use without a primer lacquer: Pour lacquer on the floor beside the back or side wall and start lacquering along the grain of the wood. Lacquer along the grain with slow, extended strokes avoiding circular strokes. Lacquer non-stop and on one/two planks at a time, starting by the wall. Stop at the door opening, pour the remains into a separate container. Let the lacquer dry for at least two hours. Sand the floor gently with sandpaper n:o 100–150 or scrape with, for example, a steel trowel or a scraper. Remove the sanding dust with a vacuum cleaner and finish with a damp cloth. Repeat the lacquering 1–2 times. Use with a primer lacquer: Prime the wooden surface with Teknos water-based primer lacquer according to the instructions. Intersand, if necessary, with sandpaper or an abrasive net n:o 150 after the first primer coat. Apply 2–3 coats of SAFIR parquet lacquer along the grain of the wood. The drying time between coats should be at least two hours, preferably left overnight. Previously lacquered floors: Clean the floor properly. Sand the floor carefully by using sandpaper n:o 100–150. Remove the sanding dust. Apply 1–2 coats of lacquer with a brush. Note! If the floor has previously been treated with oil, urethane or alkyd lacquer, the floor must be sanded to bare wood before lacquering. Ensure that the previous lacquer coat has fully dried before applying a new one. Always stir lacquer thoroughly before use. Note! Some rubber types in carpets and anti-slip materials may contain plasticisers that can cause permanent damage to the surface and colour of the protective coat.

Application conditions

The surface to be varnished has to be dry. The moisture content of the wood should be 7 ±2 % by weight. The temperature of the air, the surface and the lacquer shall be above +18 - 24°C and the relative humidity of the air 40 - 60% during the time of application and drying.

Maintenance

The varnished surface reaches its final hardness and washability within 2 weeks. Rough handling and washing is to be avoided during this period. Stained surfaces can be cleaned with a moist cleaning cloth or mop. Use a neutral detergent. Very dirty surfaces can later be cleaned with a slightly alkaline universal washing detergent.
