Nordica Eko – Proven to Last in Harsh Coastal Conditions

WHEN DURABILITY MATTERS THE MOST, PROFESSIONALS CHOOSE NORDICA

On Öckerö island, just outside Gothenburg, 45 rental apartments stand exposed to relentless wind, salt spray, and rain. Nordica Eko protected these facades for 15 years before repainting was needed. Even in harsh coastal conditions, the coating showed only minor wear. This is why professionals trust Nordica for long-term performance and resilience.

CHALLENGE AND SOLUTION

Coastal environments are among the toughest for wooden exterior facades. Salt, moisture, and strong winds accelerate wear and tear, demanding a paint that can withstand extreme conditions without compromising aesthetics.

Nordica Eko was chosen again for its proven durability and ease of application. The painting company trusted Nordica because:

  • It performed flawlessly for 15 years, showing only some fading.
  • Application methods (spray, brush, roller) offer flexibility for painters.
  • Excellent hiding power was essential due to colour change.

PARTNERSHIP THAT DELIVERS

This project was more than just paint – it was a collaboration:

  • Property Owner: Initiated the maintenance project and trusted Nordica for long-term value.
  • Painting Company: Delivered professional execution using proven techniques for a flawless finish.
  • Distributor: Teknos’ own shop, Ljungdahls Färg, in Gothenburg, ensured product availability and technical support.

Together, these partners ensured a smooth process and outstanding results. When professionals, distributors, technical experts, and property owners work as one team, durability is guaranteed.

NORDICA EKO’s glossy surface retains its gloss and colour. Façade NCS S 1000-N, trims NCS S 0502-Y.

“Choosing Nordica Eko again was an easy decision — we know it lasts and keeps the property looking fresh for years to come. The facade looks extremely nice, and we are very happy with the result.”

FROM START TO FINISH

1. Surface cleaning

After 15 years of exposure, the facades had accumulated dirt and salt deposits from the coastal climate. The first step was thorough cleaning, carried out in early April. A smart move, as cleaning can be done even when temperatures are still low. Preparing early speeds up the process so painting can begin as soon as conditions allow.

2. Repair and preparation

Some wooden panels had deteriorated over time and were replaced. These new panels were carefully primed before applying the topcoat to guarantee adhesion and long-term protection.

3. Topcoating

Two coats of Nordica Eko were applied to achieve full coverage and consistent colour, effectively hiding the previous blue and yellow shades. The result: a uniform, durable finish that will withstand the coastal climate for years to come.

“Working with Nordica Eko was smooth and efficient. Its excellent hiding power was essential for covering the old colours, and the paint performed perfectly with spray, brush, and roller. The finish looks outstanding, and we’re confident it will stand up to the coastal climate for many years.”
