Functional paints protecting the well-being of residents

Modern CLT House Villa Lippa is a high-class leisure facility surrounded by lakes and forest. The architecturally impressive modular house enjoys a magnificent location on a cliff with stunning view. Located in Lohja, 50 km from Helsinki, the house was one of the Finnish housing fair side attractions in summer 2021. At Villa Lippa the key idea was to show what high-quality leisure living can be at its best in the middle of pure nature, but still next to good sports facilities and services provided by Kisakallio villa area.

Elements of the surrounding nature were drawn into the house and its interior. The purpose of the restrained interior with high-quality materials was to create a quiet luxury for the whole facility. Solid wood CLT surfaces were left exposed, and as a well-being-enhancing material wood played a key role in the interior. A lot of solid wood surface was exposed at the site, which requires a natural treatment that ensures that the surfaces remain naturally fresh for as long as possible. Large wood surfaces have been treated with Teknos wood wax product, HELO® SOLANA WAX, which preserves the beautiful natural tone of new timber due to its superior UV protection.

Special attention was paid to the well-being of the residents. The bedrooms’ painted surfaces have fresh and soothing shades of white and gray selected from the Teknos Colour Your Story -collection. All wall and ceiling paints used in the house are Teknos' new air-purifying BIORA® AIR paints. The beautiful matt finish gives a sophisticated look and purifies the air at the same time.

”Paints have become increasingly functional and can affect living comfort and health. The less formaldehyde there is in indoor air, the cleaner and healthier homes or public spaces are for people to enjoy. Teknos’ BIORA® AIR paint absorbs aldehydes from the indoor air and neutralizes them. For me this new paint was a natural choice for Villa Lippa as it is designed for maximum well-being of its residents”, says Villa Lippa’s interior designer Heli Virtanen from Design Agency Iloa360 Oy/Ltd.

Indoor air is polluted by many sources, such as the outside air, building materials and furniture. Impurities can be, for example, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), small particles or harmful microbes such as mold. Because many of the contaminants are odorless, they are difficult to detect before people begin to show symptoms. The technology of BIORA® AIR air purifying paints is based on the aldehyde-binding property. The paint absorbs aldehydes, such as formaldehyde, from the indoor air and neutralizes it. Depending on the amount of aldehydes and the size of the space and the painted area, the functionality of the paint surface is maintained for about 5–10 years giving the residents a comfort of better indoor air quality.

Only responsible product choices

The aim in Villa Lippa was to create spaces for calm and relaxation. Long-lasting and timelessly elegant furniture and genuine materials was a natural choice for this destination. In the sauna section, the relaxing atmosphere begins as soon as you step into the dressing room, where the dim lighting of the dark space creates a peaceful feeling. The strip panel on the walls of the space has also been treated with Teknos wood products, which protect the wood and makes it durable.

“The surrounding nature of Villa Lippa is very beautiful and calm. I wanted to bring the same feeling also inside the house. The natural and peaceful whole is made from durable, genuine and high-quality materials and timeless design. Only responsible product partners were selected as product suppliers ”, says Virtanen.

The house was built by an experienced CLT and log house builder Finnlog. It has become known in Finland for individual sites designed by architects, which it builds not only in Finland but also elsewhere in Europe.
