VISA TRADITION

Thixotropic alkyd oil paint

  • Solvent-borne

Painting of surfaces outdoors, such as wooden facades, windows, doors, dressing boards and joinery. Developed for painting of new and press-impregnated wooden surfaces previously painted with oil or alkyd oil paints or previously treated with oil-based translucent or opaque top coat.

VISA TRADITION penetrates well into the wooden surface. VISA TRADITION has a high solids content and a good filling quality, and it produces an elastic, weather-resistant film. The application can be done at temperatures down to +5°C.

Surface preparation

NEW WOODEN SURFACE: Treat the surface as soon as possible. At least the impregnation and priming should be done during the summer of construction. Remove from the surface all loose matter, dirt, dust and mildew. If needed, use RENSA FACADE facade cleaner. Apply one coat of clear wood preservative from WOODEX series. Allow to dry for one hour. Prime wooden surfaces with VISA TRADITION or PUUPOHJA Alkyd Primer. Wash metal parts with TEKNOSOLV 1621 and prime with FERREX. PREVIOUSLY PAINTED OR OLD WOODEN SURFACE: Change all deteriorated wooden parts to new ones. Remove loose matter, dirt and dust. Remove deteriorated paint coats entirely. Note, that the adherence of an old thick paint layer to the substrate may have been weakened, therefore the paint should be removed although the paint film looks intact. The old paint layer is removed primarily by scraping or wire-brushing and possibly by heating the surface with infrared heater designed for that purpose. Secondarily, a paint remover or blast-cleaning can be used. Wash painted surfaces with RENSA FACADE facade cleaner and rinse the surfaces thoroughly. Old, untreated wooden surfaces can before the priming be treated with clear wood preservative from WOODEX series, see 'NEW WOODEN SURFACE'. Prime bare wooden surfaces with VISA TRADITION or with PUUPOHJA Alkyd Primer. Allow to dry for 1 - 3 days depending on the weather. Wire-brush rusty metal parts. Wash all metal parts with TEKNOSOLV 1621 and prime with FERREX.

Application

Reserve a sufficient amount of paint in the same vessel for each uniform surface. Colour differences will thus be avoided. Stir the paint well and apply by paint brush or spray once or twice.

Application conditions

The surface to be painted must be dry. The moisture of the wood must be below 20% of the dry weight of the wood. During the application and drying period the temperature of the ambient air, the surface and the paint shall be above +5°C and the relative air humidity below 80%. Avoid application in direct sunlight.
