Paint Matching the Past

Glenbruach House in Brig o’ Turk near Stirling required replacement of 90 sash and casement windows, together with refurbishment of the grand entrance porch.

Originally built in 1875 any works needed to be sensitive to the Victorian heritage, which is where the experience of John McLeods Principal Contractors was critical. They manufactured all the windows in Meranti hardwood and pre-finished them in white using Teknos Aqua primer 2901 and Aquatop 2600-23 topcoat.

John McLeod explains further “We are very much a traditional joinery company using age-old methods. Glenbruach House’s windows were traditionally made and fitted with all internal original panels and mouldings being reinstated.”

McLeods also refurbished the porch which included a requirement to match Teknos paint to surrounding outbuildings. To provide a seamless look, Teknos’ colour scanning technology was used on an original piece of timber to successfully colour match existing coatings on the property.

First-class service

The homeowners were delighted with the results - and McLeods have been delighted with the support from Teknos, helping them to deliver this first-class service.

John commented that since moving to Teknos coating systems, Teknos have gone out of their way to ensure correct product and volume application, as well as advice on spraying equipment.

And his experience of the paint itself? “Teknos paint coverage is great and the quality of finish when sprayed is exceptional. Drying times are really good which increases production time. We have also used the brushing product which is equally good” says John.

The joinery business is doing so well that they are building a larger workshop with fully equipped spraying facilities. They know that Teknos will be supporting them the whole way with invaluable help and advice.

John McLeod Principal Contractors Ltd have been a family run business for over 17 years and work hard to retain a personal touch.
