Ultimate Protection for Your Wood Projects
Architectural freedom for designs with exterior or interior wood and our TEKNOSAFE range.
Architectural freedom for designs with exterior or interior wood and our TEKNOSAFE range.
We make coated wooden products last longer in a fire by slowing the spread of flame, allowing time for escape. Our systems offer intumescent water-borne primers and topcoats that can be applied to any wood-based substrate through common industrial coating processes.
Superior Fire Retardant Coatings
Aesthetic Look with Long-Lasting Protection
Fire retardant coatings must meet strict controls, whether they are factory-applied or painted on-site. Our local fire coating experts can support a project from the architect’s vision through to the delivery of the coated product on-site, guiding you through the process and advising on solutions.
Teknos fire retardant coating solutions have been developed in our dedicated Fire Laboratory. Not only do our Fire Research & Development Team develop the latest technology in intumescent coatings, but they also conduct in-house tests to ensure the highest effectiveness for reaction to fire.
The Teknos Fire Laboratory offers in-house testing to our manufacturing customers enabling them to gain indicative tests on their fire retardant-coated products before committing to the full certification testing program.
Fire protection for exterior wood cladding, facades, balconies and interior wood and wood-based panelling, doors, staircases, wall linings and structural timbers with Teknos fire retardant coating solutions.
There are a number of tests assessing the Reaction to Fire of coated wooden products. They consider areas such as wood species, density and thickness, to produce the classification.
EN 13501-1 assesses coated products’ Reaction to Fire and results in a classification for the coated wood or wood-based product. Download our guide 'Fire Test Classification Report EN 13501-1' below for more help.
Fire retardant coatings are tested under laboratory conditions by notified bodies.
Our fire retardant coating solutions hold the following fire classifications which you can explore further by clicking through to our Classifications and Certificates web area.
K110 and K210 according to EN13501-2
The fire protection ability K is the ability of a wall or ceiling covering to provide for the material behind the covering protection against ignition, charring and other damage for a specified period of time.
DRF class INT1 and INT2
(Durability of Reaction to Fire Performance) for interior applications according to EN 16755
B-s1, d0 according to EN13501-1
Coated wood and wood-based products are assessed under European standard EN 13501-1 for spread of flame, ignitability, heat release, smoke production and flaming particles.
EXT
(Durability of Reaction to Fire Performance) for exterior applications
SP Fire 105
Approved
From an indoor arena in Paris, to one of the world’s tallest wooden structures in Norway, TEKNOSAFE coatings are keeping people safe all over the world.
One of the most recognizable public buildings protected by Teknos fire retardant solutions is the Oodi Public Library in Helsinki, Finland.
When you build with wood, safety and design must go hand in hand. Our fire-retardant coatings are developed to slow down flames, protect lives, and keep your project compliant — without compromising on aesthetics.
Safe Indoor Air Quality
All Teknos fire-retardant coatings are waterborne and tested against strict European and international indoor air quality standards (A+ France, M1 Finland, AgBB Germany, Eurofins Gold).
Reaction and Resistance to Fire
Our coatings are tested for Reaction to Fire – reducing the spread and intensity of flames to give more time to escape. For exterior use, we also cover Resistance to Fire – slowing down how fire moves once established.
Surface or Deep Protection
Choose between intumescent coatings applied to the wood surface, which swell to block flames, or pressure-impregnation treatments that protect from the inside out.
To maintain the effectiveness of fire retardant coated exterior or interior wood, please carefully follow our Guidelines for Maintenance
