High standards of craftsmanship, state-of-the-art production and innovative ideas are what distinguish Schmidt-Visbek, a window manufacturer based in Lower Saxony. The company offers a wide range of products, from classic wooden windows to design elements with connestions without screws. The right wood coatings for them come from Teknos.
"Innovation and passion for good craftsmanship are in our DNA," says Ulrich Schmidt, managing partner at Schmidt-Fenster GmbH in Visbek, Lower Saxony (Germany). "By combining traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art technology, we have made a name for ourselves as a quality supplier in the industry."
Ulrich Schmidt is the third generation to run the company started by his grandfather in 1945. It got off the ground producing sewing boxes and moved on to specialize in furniture. The company switched to wooden windows and doors in the 1950s, then in 1969 became a pioneering manufacturer of PVCwindows. The product range, production and sales have steadily expanded since then.
These days, Schmidt-Visbek develops and manufactures high-quality windows and entrance doors made of wood, PVC and aluminum that it distributes through authorized specialist dealers and joiners. The company group includes ip company, founded in 2001, and Regensburger Fensterwerke, which was acquired in 2011. Schmidt-Visbek is active throughout Europe as well, with locations in five EU countries.
Schmidt-Visbek's classic product portfolio comprises eight types of wood and wood/aluminum windows with various construction depths, styles of fittings and profiles. Then there are several lines of PVC products with and without an aluminum cladding, as well as a wide selection of external doors and sliding door solutions.
The enterprise is taking a particularly innovative path with the ip company, founded in 2001. "Our ip concept emerged from the idea of transferring a bonding technology developed for automotive manufacturing to window production," explains Ulrich Schmidt. "This makes it possible for large-sized window elements with narrow frames to have connections without screws. The visual appearance and design possibilities are a huge hit with architects and building developers."
The crafted quality and innovative design of Schmidt-Visbek windows set a high bar for the matching finish. The solution comes from Teknos. Schmidt-Visbek works mainly with oak, spruce, pine, larch and meranti, which are coated with a high-quality four layer system. The Teknos system products used are GORI 356, AQUAPRIMER 2900-02, ANTISTAIN AQUA 2901-00/2901-52 special primer and AQUATOP 2600 topcoat. Coating is carried out on a total of four flow coating machines and an automated electrostatic sprayer.
"With the Teknos products, we can produce a coating that fully meets our requirements," says Burkhard Bramlage, who is responsible for process planning and the technology used in window manufacturing at Schmidt-Visbek. "The process characteristics are very good, and the buildup of coating layers enables us to achieve a high quality surface finish. We are also impressed by the service and competent advice we get from Teknos."
Components from the ip range focus on individuality. "We tend to manufacture ip elements in smaller batches, which is no problem thanks to state-of-the-art CNC technology," explains Burkhard Bramlage. "Architects and developers often want high-quality, matte gloss grades and individual colors. These we mix ourselves on a Teknomix system here in Visbek." When it comes to opaque colors, white and shades of grey currently dominate in the classic product portfolio.
High class residential complexes, modern office buildings, shops in listed premises of historical importance – windows from Visbek can be found in many buildings throughout Germany and other European countries. The passion that goes into making windows and doors in Visbek (and coating them with Teknos) is clearly successful.
